MEDUSA: Medusa was the Goddess Athena’s handmaiden; her golden hair was like the sunlight and framed the rare beauty of her face. She was the human granddaughter of MotherGaia, the earth Goddess. Medusa was ravaged by the sea God Poseidon in Athena’s temple, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war, was a virgin: she watched the violation in her temple and hiding her rage and disgust behind her shield her fury swept her godly reason away, Athena transformed the ravaged girl into a dragon; Medusa’s soft shoulders became brass claws, fangs hung where her teeth had gleamed, and a long tongue lapped her chin. In place of Medusa’s soft bright hair, asps and vipers withered from the roots encircling her once lovely features.
Finally Athena put a stare in Medusa’s eyes – a stare that turned men to stone. It had been told that when Medusa was beheaded the blood spurting from the artery in her neck gave birth to Pegasus, the winged horse of creativity, from her snakes’ blood came healing fluids as well as venom that created war, even the image on Athena’s shield was said to frighten all her enemies.
